Are you Practicing Permission Marketing?
I was talking with Tiffany Blackden of Professional Massage Network this week about marketing strategies for using social media tools. I really liked her definition of social media which I asked if I could share that with you this week. She referred to social media as PERMISSION marketing! That is such a good description of how we should view our marketing when we use these tools.
Think about it, the goal no matter which online media tools you are using:
- email blast
- Linked In
- You Tube
- Google+
or any other is to NOT be the constant promoter. You all know what I mean by that, we have all seen them. Those individuals and companies whose only posts consist of “take my class or buy my product“ and never have anything else of value to contribute. That is the opposite of what being social is all about. At least not if you want people to unsubscribe to your updates, hide from your posts and spam your emails! You get their PERMISSION to share informational content with them and then occasionally you throw in a promotion after you have built a relationship with them. This all begins by getting their PERMISSION to engage, connect, and communicate with those potential customers who are recommending, following, sharing, and spending time with you on the social media sites.

Thank you for the comments, always good to have support! Lots of changes happening on Facebook and I’m working on a new webinar to help educate and share strategies for surviving the changes. Will be posting more information as have it available.
This is really good advice….as the person who does most of the social marketing for our school it is important to remember the “social” aspect to this marketing tool and to include something of value…not just the sales stuff. Thanks again!
